Dreaming about basic tzatziki dip. ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

Alright, my friends. The time has come for me to share the most basic of all recipes with you.

Most of my meals in the last week have involved this dip. I am obsessed. It’s not fancy. It’s not super impressive. It’s not anything you’ve never heard of. Or that the internet doesn't already have a bazillion recipes of it.

I’m just regularly snacking on this with bread or crackers while I’m supposed to making dinner because it’s really, really simple… and REALLY, REALLY GOOD. I can't help myself...it usually becomes my dinner. 😑

Even though this is ridiculously easy, I feel part of my job is to just show you what I love eating in my real life, so here it is. This is what I love eating in real life. Basic tzatziki dip, coming right up.

    What is tzatziki?

Tzatziki is a yogurt and cucumber dip that’s made of Greek yogurt, shredded cucumber, olive oil, garlic, salt, and dill. Authentic Greek tzatziki is most often thought to be made with sheep or goat yogurt, that's not the case they do use regular full-fat Greek yogurt. Also, most Greeks use vinegar, not lemons in tzatziki and LOTS OF GARLIC! I skipped the vinegar in my recipe, cause I like it without if you want to add vinegar go ahead. You do you. 😉

How to make Basic Tzatziki Dip

I first introduced tzatziki dip at pita pit, when I was a teenager I quickly became obsessed, I also got my husband addicted to it too. I loved it so much that when I learned that it’s incredibly easy to whip up at home. I never went back to store-bought. My wallet thanked me!

So how easy is it? It's as easy as 5 steps!

    1. Grate your cucumbers
    2. Salt your cucumbers
    3. Strain your cucumbers
    4. Mix your yogurt, olive oil, garlic, dill and cucumbers
    5. Dip your bread, crackers, or veggies in the basic tzatziki dip.

    That's it, friends!

Tips on making Basic Tzatziki Dip

    • Use lots of garlic! Real Tzatziki uses 2-3 garlic clove...errr maybe we should rename this to "the dragon breath dip." 😏
    • Fresh dill is preferred. You can also use mint.
    • Use Greek yogurt. It is a Greek recipe, of course. If you do have it, then use regular yogurt and strain it for 2-3 hours in a cheesecloth.

    Servings 2 cups

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ cup of greek yogurt
    • ½ of an english cucumber
    • 2-3 garlic cloves crushed into a paste
    • 2 tablespoon fresh dill finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    Instructions

    • Grate your cucumber, sprinkle it with salt let sit for 10-15 minutes. We want to remove as much water as possible from the cucumber.
    • Place the cucumber into a cheesecloth or even a clean dish towel and squeeze out all the water.
    • Add the cucumbers and all the other ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix together all the ingredients.
    • Cover & chill for at least 60 minutes in the refrigerator. If you can wait that long!
    • Serve.
