Chocolate Avocado Pudding
Welcome to 2014! 🎉
When this recipe was all the rage, health blogs were booming, and the internet was telling everyone they need to eat more healthily. (erm...I think they still are 🤷🏻♀️) By now, adding avocado to desserts isn’t as much of a mind-blowing realization.
But this phenomenon was definitely mind-blowing 7-10 years ago when we started seeing this trend popping up everywhere. Now, that I think about it, I can't believe I've been eating this dessert for 7+ YEARS!!! What? Where did the time go?
This may be an internet retro recipe now, but I believe a great dessert is always fashionable.
The chocolatey, rich, and creamy chocolate avocado pudding is a little healthier than traditional pudding recipes made with sugar loads and cream. Once you taste this recipe, you'll understand why this internet retro recipe needs to make another come back.
Does Avocado pudding taste like avocados?
If your unfamiliar with avocado-based desserts, I'm sure these phrases came to mind. "what does this even taste like? And can you taste the avocado in the mousse?"
I think most people who have tried this recipe will agree that you definitely cannot taste the avocados (as long as they are super ripe avocados, don't use unripe avocados). With the amount of cocoa powder, ripe bananas, and dates going into the recipe, there is really no avocado taste!
You would never know that avocados are in this recipe unless someone told you. And if by chance, you do notice the avocado it's a very light, pleasant taste, not at all grassy.
Is Chocolate Avocado Pudding Healthy?
I think this avocado chocolate pudding variation is a healthy dessert that you can enjoy in moderation. It has less unhealthy fats, fewer calories and sugar than traditional pudding. Each serving only has about 280 calories and 8 grams of fibre⏤not too shabby!
Also, avocados are cholesterol-free, sugar-free, and loaded with good fats that lower the risks of heart disease. Thanks to these healthy fats and vitamins, avocados are also great for your skin.
Who doesn't want to get glowing skin while satisfying their chocolate craving!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make this dessert ahead of time?
This dessert will keep up to 5 days in the fridge, so it's perfect to make ahead of time if you are going to be hosting. Place the pudding into a jar, cover tightly with plastic wrap and store in the fridge. When ready to serve, simply stir, scoop into cups and add the toppings!
Is avocado chocolate mousse keto-friendly?
You can make this keto-friendly by increasing the avocado and remove the banana.
Can you freeze chocolate avocado pudding?
Avocados freeze really well, and they also make a great substitute for ice cream! Place in an airtight container, freeze and grab it out of the freezer whenever a chocolate craving hits!
Can I use frozen avocado for this recipe?
YES! you sure can. I recommend using frozen avocados for this recipe. If you're like me, you've probably had your fair share of avocado sit around past their prime. Using frozen avocado helps to reduce kitchen waste, plus you won't need to wait for the pudding to chill in the fridge before serving.

Is there an alternative for the almond butter or can you omit it?
Sarah
I’ve never tried making this recipe without it, so I’m not sure how it would taste if you were to omit it. You can use a seed butter like sunflower butter or any other type of nut or seed butter.
